BOYS VOLLEYBALL RULES – PAL 2009All divisions will play a Rally score match that consist of 2 out of 3 games.  Game 1 and 2 will be 25 point games with a cap of 27.  If a third game is necessary that game will be played to 15 with a 17 point cap. No games will be timed.

   1. A team can have 5 players to start a game.  A Ghost server will be enforced when 5 players are used (Side-out – rally point opposing team).
   2. All teams are expected to be at a site 20 minutes prior to first game. Read the schedule carefully and know which court you are playing on and be on that court ready to play. Do not leave the site after you have played a match as the matches will follow one after the other.
   3. Warm-ups will begin upon completion of the previous game.  Warm up time for 1st time on court will be 2-2-1.  After that warm up time will be serving only.  
   4. FORFEITS: Game time is forfeit time. The next game will be forfeited after 10 minutes. The match is forfeited 20 minutes after game time. 
   5. A coin flip will occur before the first game (and 3rd game if applicable). The home team will be the team on the left side of the schedule.  They will have the choice of side.  The visiting team will call the flip. The winner of the toss will have the choice of serve or receive. 
   6. Each team is allowed a maximum of 18 substitutions per game. Each player is allowed unlimited entries within the team limit. Substitutions should be up and ready to go in or your team will be charged with an unnecessary delay.  Coaches should NOT assist their subs to the line send them on their own and the officiating staff will take care of it from there.
   7. Each team has two 30 second time-outs per game.
   8. SERVING LINE: The serving lines will be moved up 3 Feet from the end lines for 4^th Grade. ALL TEAMS will have a 6-foot clearance for serving.
   9. Net Height for 4^th – 6^th is 7’4 ¼. 7^th & 8^th Grade net height is 7’8.
   10. Only IHSA certified volleyballs may be used. The game ball will be provided by the home site and approved by the head referee. No VolleyLite balls for 4^th & 5^th Grade.
   11. NO Jewelry is allowed. Also, face paint, glitter or any foreign object that may cause a safety hazard is not allowed.
   12. For unsportsmanlike behavior, the card system will be used.
   13. Coaches are allowed to stand during time-outs and substitutions only. Coaches may not walk the sidelines or stand at the end of bench during the game.

14.                       Coaches are responsible for their players’ conduct before, during and after games. Please respect the rules of the school’s facilities. Also, please pick up any water/sport drink bottles around the benches when the match is over.

   1. IHSA rules apply. The Libero is allowed to serve. The down official will be tracking this using a triangle around the position they served in. They are only allowed to serve in one serving position per game.
   2. There will be no protests allowed ,officials decisions are final.
   3. ROSTER:  A player can play only on the team they are rostered on .
   4. AWARDS:  Pal will supply individual awards for a maximum of 12 players and 2 coaches on your roster.  If you exceed that number you will be responsible for the difference in cost for the award.  4^th – 7^th grade will receive t-shirt’s for first place & 2^nd place along with a team trophy.  8^th Grade 1^st place will receive hoodies (your choice of color) and 2^nd place will receive t-shirts along with a team trophy.
